Awards
and Activities
1997 - Lifetime achievement award from the "Academia Mexicana de
Materiales" "Por su valiosa contribución al desarrollo de la
Ciencia de los Materiales en México."
1999 - UTEP - Award for
outstanding achievement in developing the University Seminar Program.

Research
Interests
My research projects focus on both the fundamental and applied aspects of
materials science as applied to petroleum catalysis, fuel cell electrodes,
organic/inorganic complex materials and biofuels. The main current
fundamental focus is on organic/complex materials that have led to novel
catalysts and pigments. MRTI has generated start-up companies that exploit
intellectual property developed by UTEP faculty and students. These
start-ups (Mayan Pigments Inc., Refinery Science Inc. and Energy Farms Inc.
have provided jobs and research investment for the El Paso region.
