My name is Jon Mohl and I am originally from St Louis, MO. I finished my undergraduate studies in Microbiology in 2002 at Colorado State University, and proceeded to start a Master’s there in Microbiology. I have worked as a teaching assistant, both as an undergraduate and as a graduate student. I also worked in a mycobacterial lab working with Mycobacterium avium subspecies avium and paratuberculosis in the areas of genetics and lipidomics. Katrina Pekar-Carpenter Graduate Student (PhD)

I am in my second year at UTEP as a PhD student in geology. My research is on radionuclide transport at Pena Blanca in Chihuahua, which is a natural analogue to the proposed nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. I plan to continue doing research on nuclear waste storage for the government, hopefully at one of the national labs, when I graduate. Milka Montes Graduate Major/Area of Study: Chemistry/Analytical |
My name is Milka
Montes; currently I am a doctoral student in the area of analytical and
environmental chemistry. During my college years, I have participated
in student organizations such as the American Chemical Society-Student
Affiliates, and the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native
Americans in Science, both at UTEP and at the national levels. I am also
a member of the American Society of Plant Biology and just recently became
part of the College of Science Graduate Student Council. Being part of
these organizations, has given me the opportunity to share my experiences
with other students and faculty, increasing my networking skills, and
broadening my view of science. |

Cheryl Storer is a representative from the biology department.
