Welcome:
We are pleased
that you have taken the time to visit our web site and learn more about
the College of Science at the University of Texas at El Paso. Within our
College are the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry,
Geological Sciences, Mathematics and Physics. We offer B.S. and M.S.
degrees in all disciplines and Ph.D. degrees in Biological Sciences,
Chemistry, and Geological Sciences. Interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in
Environmental Science and Engineering and Materials Science and
Engineering are also available to our students. We have a total of about
160 faculty in the College, approximately 2000 undergraduate and
graduate students. A new Ph.D. program in Computational Science is under
consideration for approval by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board and another proposal for Ph.D. program in Ecology and Evolutionary
Biology will soon be reviewed.
Science is an
important part of the academic program at UTEP. A new 84,000 sqft
biology research building with several state-of-the-art research
instrumentation is complete, and a new Chemistry and Computer Science
building will be initiated this Fall. We are working to fill several
endowed professorships and seeking new junior faculty in a variety of
fields. The equipment available to College faculty, students and staff
is excellent and well maintained. We are working hard to expand
interdisciplinary research within the College and across the University.
Our academic
programs feature close student faculty contact, student research and
access to modern equipment. We endeavor to train our students well and
then promote their future success as they seek out graduate,
professional and employment opportunities. Please accept my invitation
to explore our new web site and to visit our College and University.
Sincerely,
Anny Morrobel-Sosa
Dean of Science
